The year is 2152. Genetics corporation CURE has successfully grown and sold artificial life as a workforce under a program named G.E.N.E.S.I.S. since 2042.Alternative Humans—Alts—have radically changed the world in a century.

MANHATTAN

Manhattan remains the most densely populated borough of NYC. The tallest skyscrapers dominate here, some reaching around 4,000 feet. The majority of white-collar business is conducted here, and it remains relatively "safe" in comparison to the five other districts due to the high presence of law enforcement. CURE's headquarters is located here. Around 2082, Central Park was reduced in size to expand housing with private access to sections of the park. Nowadays, much of the park is privatized, and no longer a luxury of the public.

BROOKLYN

Brooklyn, while still an economic powerhouse, is largely the residential/shopping district of NYC. It's the second safest borough, home to much of the wealthy citizens of new york that can afford the luxurious apartments and expensive living style. Mostly politicians, socialites, or businesspeople dominate this borough, though it's not without its dark pockets, where crime is often dealt under the table.

QUEENS

Queens has become the main residential borough for the blue-collar workers of NYC. It remains culturally diverse, hosting many people of different backgrounds, but is not nearly as robust as Manhattan or Brooklyn. Here, most people scrape by working however they can, and the receding middle-class consists largely of workers that work low positions in either Brooklyn or Manhattan, but are unable to afford the obscene living costs of either borough. Crime is rampant, and while politicians frequently promise reform, little action has been taken to halt the growing social and economic tensions.

THE BRONX

The Bronx suffers tremendously from economic fatigue. What used to be a thriving culture has been run through by factories, power plants, and crumbling architecture; as Manhattan and Brooklyn have expanded, taking advantage of new technology and boasting the scientific innovations of the century, The Bronx has fallen behind and into obsolescence, leaving the poorest New Yorkers to fend for themselves, often at the whims of corporate elites who buy out buildings and land to build more wasteful plants that pollute the environment and leave the people sick.

STATEN ISLAND

While once a historical borough dedicated to parks and museums, Staten Island has since become an exclusive district surrounded entirely by the waterflood walls that hosts government and military operations following cyberattacks in 2039 that essentially destroyed the Internet and rendered modern technology useless. Many devices became consolidated into smaller supercomputers capable of breaching and operating on higher security networks that are monitored by the bases similar to Staten Island. While the old net unsupervised net is accessible through some devices, it's largely unsafe. So data transfers have regressed back to physical sticks and chips containing information that are mass produced by multiple companies, some based in NYC.

CHARACTERS

The city of New York has only grown more vast in 2152. Many lives stubbornly cling to this sprawling city.
